We had so much fun at our Winter LEGO Challenge! Thank you so much to everyone who attended. On Saturday, February 18th, kids gathered in the Community Room to build around a surprise theme which was announced at the beginning of the contest. The theme this time around was food. Kids were encouraged to think expansively and creatively about the theme with questions such as, “What kinds of food do I like to eat?”, “What are my favorite restaurants?”, and “Where does food come from?”. From here, kids created all kinds of different LEGO builds including restaurants, orchards, and even a giant burger. At the end of 45 minutes, everyone was asked to stop building and the judging began. The following winners were chosen in 4 categories:
Most Overall Awesome: Cliff Emmans for his creation, “Chewy’s Cafe”
Most Creative: Charlie Martin for his creation, “Candy Jail”
Most Appetizing (based on our food theme): Calvin Brown for his creation “Da Burger”
Best Build Ages 6 and Under: Henry Pearson for his creation, “The Wayside Restaurant”
Each of the winners got to pick out a LEGO set to take home as their prize. With so many unique, interesting, and creative builds, it was a tight competition between an awesomely talented group of Northfield kids. You can check out the winning builds as well as many of the other builds kids created now on display in the youth section of the library. The library would like to thank the community members who so generously donated the LEGO prizes as well as the volunteers who helped with the event. If you missed the LEGO Challenge this time around, don’t worry, the library will host another one this summer.
